Dudley House Historic Museum July 10th (11:30 AM - 3:00 PM) for a picnic/show and tell get-togerther.  
​The thought is for the society to provide sandwiches with the $$$ that we would normally spend on a speaker.  As in the past, members can bring a side dish or dessert to share.  We also thought we can have a “SHOW AND TELL” table and members could share their successful culture techniques for their orchids

Our Display that will not be seen by the public as the orchid show for Santa Barbara was canceled.
Our monthly  Tuesday meeting is canceled  , and our potting workshop is all so canceled.
Monthly meetings include an excellent orchid lecture by experienced orchid growers/orchid nursery owners/accredited American Orchid Society (AOS) Judges. There is an opportunity table of outstanding orchid varieties where attendees purchase raffle tickets to win orchid plants.
Please join us and learn how to successfully grow orchids and make new friends.

‘Growing cymbidiums like a Boss’, is the title of our February presentation to the Ventura
County Orchid Society. We will review the basic needs and a few ‘extra tips’ on how to get
fantastic results with your cymbidium orchids! Cymbidiums are a fantastic garden orchid for
enthusiasts that generally thrive in mild Mediterranean climates! George is recognized in the
orchid community for his numerous award-winning cymbidiums that he has created and grown.
George has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cal Poly Pomona in Plant and Soil Sciences and
has worked in Agriculture since 1985. George Hatfield is the past president of the American
Orchid Society and has served on numerous boards of Orchid organizations.

Our speaker for January will be Rena Soto, who will be giving a presentation on Laelia Anceps. Rina is an avid orchid grower for many years. Rina can remember in her youth appreciating the native orchids of Nicaragua growing in her grandmother’s garden. Rina is a student judge in the American Orchid Society and an associate judge in the Cymbidium Society of America. Rina’s orchid collection is large and contains a wide variety of orchids. Rina has a large collection of Laelia anceps that is the pride and joy of her collection. Often you can see Rina at orchid shows working as a volunteer for Ecugenera of Ecuador. Rina attended the 22nd World Orchid Conference in Ecuador with her husband Rueben and is registered to attend the 23rd WOC in Taiwan in March.

The meeting is held at the top Floor of the Ventura Townehouse. The meeting will have coffee and desserts along with a speaker on orchids, followed by showing of the latest orchids blooming brought in by members and ended with a raffle. Orchids will also be for sale from members collections.

 Jim Sloniker is well known by our members and needs no introduction: his outstanding reputation and contributions to the orchid community precedes him.  He has been growing orchids since he graduated from high school.  Jim is an accredited AOS and Cymbidium Society of America (CSA) Judge; and very active in our orchid community.  He grows his extensive orchid collection of Cymbidiums, Paphiopedilums, Cattleyas, and Phalaenopsis both outside and in a greenhouse.  Jim has been on the board of directors for the successful Santa Barbara International Orchid Show for many years.  Jim serves as Chairman of the Pacific South, Santa Barbara Judging region and is the recipient of the Orchid Digest Corporation’s Diamond award for his many years of service to the Ventura County Orchid Society.  Jim’s presentation on how to grow Paphiopedilums will be informative to both the novice and the expert grower.

Does your orchids bloom? Have funny markings or spots?  Looks like it going to "kick the bucket soon"?  Bring your plants to the meeting.  Your orchid society will determine what's wrong.

If you have a plant that may have a fungus or scales, please bring it in a plastic bag so we don't infect or contaminate other plants.  

We have 10 virus test kits.  If you would like your orchid tested for virus, please bring it to the meeting.

Bio: Shawn is a biology/botany student at Santa Barbara City College working on transferring with the ultimate goal of a PhD in botany.  He has been growing carnivorous plants for about 15 years, and orchids for about 4 years.  He is a horticulturalist at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate where he is managing the tropical and intermediate greenhouses.  ​

Speaker Bio: Wayne started working at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate in 1988, first working with Phaleanopsis, then Cymbidiums, and now as a general manager.  He speaks at orchid societies throughout California (and once in New Orleans) and has written articles for the CSA Journal as well as the Bronx Botanical Garden.  He is past president of the Orchid Society of Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara Cymbidium Society.  He currently serves as president of the Santa Barbara International Orchid Show.
